Human persons have "the right to act in conscience and in freedom so as personally to make moral decisions. (They) must not be forced to act contrary to (their) conscience. Nor must (they) be prevented from acting according to (their) conscience, especially in religious matters." (CCC 1782) "The education of conscience is a lifelong task. From the earliest years, it awakens the child to the knowledge and practice of the interior law recognized by conscience. Prudent education teaches virtue; it prevents or cures fear, selfishness and pride, resentment arising from guilt, and feelings of complacency, born of human weakness and faults. The education of the conscience guarantees freedom and engenders peace of heart." (CCC 1784) "Truth, however, is to be sought after in a manner proper to the dignity of the human person and (their) social nature. The inquiry is to be free, carried on with the aid of teaching or instruction, communication and dialogue, in the course of which (people) explain to one another the truth they have discovered, or think they have discovered, in order thus to assist one another in the quest for truth."
